VoteReminder

Privacy Policy

VoteReminder exists to help you vote — not to learn about your politics.

Last updated: 16 July 2026

Who is responsible for your data

The data controller is VoteReminder. For privacy questions or requests, email vote@disenfranchised.uk.

Information we use

  • Your email address and security information needed to create, confirm and protect your account.
  • Your optional postcode, used to request upcoming election information.
  • Your reminder choices.
  • A device push token, platform and last-seen time when you enable mobile notifications.
  • Limited operational and security logs needed to diagnose failures and prevent abuse.

We do not record how you voted, intend to vote, or any party, candidate or political preference.

Why we use it

  • To provide the account, election lookup and reminders you request.
  • For our legitimate interests in securing, operating and improving the service.
  • Where necessary, to meet a legal obligation or respond to a lawful request.

You can change notification consent at any time in My preferences or in the app.

Services we use

  • Democracy Club: receives the postcode used for an election lookup, but not your name or email address.
  • Google Firebase Cloud Messaging: processes a device token and notification content to deliver mobile notifications.
  • Our hosting, database and email providers: process the minimum information needed to host the service and deliver account email.

Some providers may process information outside the UK. Where this happens, the controller uses the provider's applicable UK transfer safeguards. We do not sell personal information or use it for advertising.

How long we keep it

  • Account information, postcode and preferences are kept until you delete your account.
  • Device tokens are removed when you log out, delete your account, or the notification service reports that a token is invalid.
  • Operational logs are retained for up to 30 days.
  • Deleted information may remain in protected backups for up to 30 days before normal rotation removes it.

Your choices and rights

Depending on the circumstances, you may ask for access, correction, deletion, restriction or a portable copy of your information, or object to its use. You may withdraw notification consent at any time.

You can delete your account here. For another request, contact the address above. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office.

Election information

Election and candidate information comes from Democracy Club and linked official notices. VoteReminder is independent and is not affiliated with or endorsed by government. For urgent voting questions, check your poll card, local council or the Electoral Commission.
